Skin Stories: Hillary

I've always found great joy in skincare but I also struggled deeply with my skin. I had extremely dry, flaky areas and periodic spouts of rosacea and breakouts. Despite having a 10(+) step skincare routine, getting regular facials and trying every new skincare product on the market - I felt like I could never win my skin battle.

After 10 years (and thousands of dollars later), I discovered “clean beauty”. I realized that living a healthy lifestyle also extended to what I put on my skin. I decided to stop using copious amounts of products that often contained harsh ingredients, and go back to the natural basics. And wow - did the results show!

I noticed that my skin was less “reactive” and had no more redness or flakiness. Plus, the breakouts on my chin were no longer a weekly occurrence. My constant staple throughout this journey was organic rosehip oil. The MERME Facial Beauty Elixir was the catalyst to discovering the benefits of facial oils and how they can restore and replenish your skin. What miraculously happened when using facial oils, was that my skin started to balance. The dry areas were more moisturized and hydrated, and my redness / breakouts were a rarity (not the norm).

So, My Tips for Attaining your Best Skin:

  1. Don't do “too much”: My skin was in it's worst state when I was constantly applying the latest skincare trend product (hello retinol, AHA, vitamin C all at once) to hopefully answer my skin dreams. But in reality, too many products can be counterproductive and are too abrasive to our skin's delicate pH level and moisture barrier. If either of those are out of whack, breakouts and dryness can result. When I stripped my skincare back to natural, clean and time-tested ingredients, my skin became more balanced and clear.
  2. Always stay hydrated: whatever your skin type is, we all need more hydration in our lives. I make sure to constantly drink water throughout the day (two liters minimum) and using hydrating skincare ingredients. The Facial Hydration Serum contains pure Hyaluronic Acid, which is arguably the most hydrating skincare ingredient out there.
  3. Find what works for YOU: Just because your friend swears by a product doesn't mean it will necessarily work wonders for you too. We all have different skin concerns and you need to listen to your skin to find what works for you. I have dry skin, so I won't be using harsh exfoliating products that my oily-skinned friends can use. If in doubt, check out the skin type quiz - this helped me understand my specific skin type and what works best for my unique skin.

Making incremental shifts towards “clean skincare” is one of the best things I did for my skin and body - (plus, my bank account is much happier).

I've always loved skin care, but I've always struggled with my skin. I had extremely dry, scaly patches and at times also rosacea and pimples. My tips to get your best skin:

  1. Less is more: My skin was at its worst when I was constantly applying the latest skincare trend products (hello retinol, AHA, vitamin C all at once) hoping for dreamy skin. The truth is that too many products can be counterproductive and damage our skin's delicate pH and moisture barrier. When these are out of balance, breakouts and dryness can result. When I switched my skincare routine to natural, pure, and time-tested ingredients, my skin became much more balanced and clear.

  1. Stay hydrated: No matter what skin type you have, we all need more hydration in our lives. We all have different skin concerns and you need to listen to your skin to find out what it needs. I have dry skin, so I won't use harsh exfoliating products that my friends with oily skin like to use. When in doubt, do the skin type test - this helped me a lot to understand my specific skin type and what works best for my unique skin type.

Gradually switching to Clean Skincare is one of the best things I've done for my skin and body (plus my bank account is happy).
