cloudy bottle? The facts about dregs and sediments

Trübe Flasche? Die Fakten über Bodensatz und Sedimente
(ENGLISH BELOW)
Your oils form sediments in winter? No worries! We'll explain what it is
with the turbidity and how the oil becomes clear again.
Especially during the colder months, some MERME products such as the Revitalizing Hair Treatment or the Facial Healing Elixir can become slightly cloudy and form a sediment. That doesn't mean your oil has gone bad - quite the opposite! A natural cloudiness is even a quality feature. Because cold-pressed, unrefined oils - like all MERME oils are - still contain the largest possible proportion of plant fibers, which is what makes the oils so effective. These healthy ingredients are mostly dissolved in the oil but can solidify in the cold and form a dreg and sediment.

It's the same as having cream of tartar in your wine - it may not look the best, but it doesn't affect the wine and it still tastes just as good.

In the picture you can see two different levels of sediment formation on unlabelled bottles of our Healing Elixir. They both contain 100% organic, cold-pressed tamanu oil. A thin layer of sediment has formed on the bottle on the left, while sediments that look like small crystals make up ¾ of the bottle on the right. As I said, no need to worry because the effectiveness remains unchanged! A little heat and shaking is enough to get an even, clear oil that can be spread more easily.
Simply place your bottle in a sink of warm water for 20 seconds . The temperature must not be higher than 45°C in order not to damage the oil! Then give it a good shake and you'll find that it quickly returns to its original state.

It's perfectly okay to repeat this process if you find that your oil has become a little cloudy or thickened - this is especially common when the temperature is below 21°C.

The settling and precipitation of these natural ingredients in your MERME oil is therefore completely harmless and proof of its natural purity and quality.

Tamanu Oil - The facts about sediment.
If you notice your oils solidifying this winter - don't stress!

During colder months, some of MERME's products may solidify or become cloudy such as our Revitalizing Hair Treatment and Facial Healing Elixir . This is perfectly normal and in fact a sign of the purity of the oils because they have been cold-pressed and not heat extracted.

Here in this image there are two different levels of white sediment in an unlabelled bottle of our Healing Elixir . They contain 100% Organic Cold Pressed Tamanu Oil.

In the bottle on the left side you can see a layer at the bottom and on the right, it's throughout 3/4 of the bottle and looks crystallized.

After resting the bottles in a sink of warm water for 20 seconds (and giving them a good shake!), you'll notice that the oil has returned to its previous state.

Make sure the temperature doesn't exceed 45° C so the properties of the oil aren't damaged by over heating!

It's ok to repeat this process whenever you see your oil becoming 'gluggy' or like a gel especially in temperatures below 21° C. Also please note that this doesn't change the effect of the oil at all - it's just much nicer to apply a clear, flowing oil on your skin, we know!
