DRY SKIN TYPE

WHAT‘S THAT?

If your skin feels tight, dry, or even rough, and you have no oily spots - you probably have a DRY skin type.

Dry skin is usually characterised by fine pores, a matt or slightly dull appearance, and possibly tightness or flakiness towards the edges of your face. Dry skin is more susceptible to sensitivity or external environments (wind, sun & heat damage) as oil creates a natural protective barrier - so redness, inflammation and irritation can occur especially during colder months.

CAUSES

Like all skin types, dry skin is genetic. Dry skin usually produces less sebum or natural oils (not water, that’s dehydrated skin which is a skin condition, not a skin type) and it is very common, especially in winter.

As your skin is slacking in its own oil production, your skin loses its ability to produce and retain suficient moisture.

Ageing and hormones are all contributors to dry skin, as well as some external lifestyle and environmental triggers.

You can have dry skin and also have dehydrated skin. It is very common that on top of a lack of oil production, there is a lack of water in your skin, which can result in that "tight" feeling in your skin.

TIPS

care

Quenching your skin’s thirst is a must! Replenish your skin with products that hydrate, nourish and restore the skin’s moisture levels are key. Keeping your skin hydrated will not only mean a healthier appearance but a stronger skin barrier.

Layer products from thinnest to thickest consistency to balance skin’s moisture level through the use of mists, serums and oils to cocoon your skin with these beneficial ingredients.

As we age, dry skin’s collagen and hyaluronic acid diminish which are crucial naturally-occurring substances that keep skin soft and supple. So look for skincare ingredients like hyaluronic acid, collagen and vitamin-C to intensely hydrate skin and prevent dry, rough skin.

Make sure to also avoid any sulfates, harsh soaps or artificial perfumes, which can strip and upset your skin’s natural balance and will likely worsen your dry skin.

Incorporate oil rich skin care into your routine will protect your skin and makeup for the oil your skin is not naturally producing. Lighter moisturisers will not be enough in your case as it will feel like it only works for a few hours.

1

Oil Cleanser

Assess your skin in the morning - does it feel congested or last night’s make up still lingering? Use the Facial Cleansing Oil. Or skip a morning cleanse and simply wash your face with clean water in the morning.

2

Facial Mist

Next, boost your hydration levels and tone your skin with a very soothing spritz such as the Facial Antioxidant Mist to help lubricate the skin and enable your following products to penetrate deeper into the epidermis. Antioxidants are basically a bodyguard for your face which neutralise free radicals and stop them from running riot causing blemishes and pigmentation.

3

Serum

Next, apply serums that will hydrate and strengthen your skin. Your skin needs a big boost of hydration especially after a long night's sleep. Firstly mist your face with the Facial Collagen Serum, then use the Facial Hydration Serum. This lightweight serum is pure Hyaluronic Acid which will instantly plump and firm your skin, while creating a natural protective barrier.

4

Facial Oil

Finish with a few drops of your favourite facial oil such as the Facial Beauty Elixir for much needed moisture and to protect your skin from environmental pollutants. Use SPF daily to protect your skin from the further drying effect of UV radiation.

MORNING ROUTINE

EVENING ROUTINE

Oil Cleanser

At the end of the day, remove make up and clean your face with the Facial Cleansing Oil. You should never feel “squeaky clean” after cleansing, so avoid any foams, soaps or harsh treatments.

1

Facial Mist

Like in the morning, tone your skin with a very hydrating organic Facial Antioxidant Mist or Facial Calming Mist to help your following products absorb better into the skin.

2

Serum

Next, apply serums which contain the most active, skin-benefiting ingredients. Along with the Facial Hydration Serum, the Facial Collagen Serum will help with the negative effects of having dry skin. Collagen is an important ingredient as it is the natural structural protein that is the ‘building blocks' of your skin, so promotes skin strength, firmness, and plumpness.

3

Facial Oil

Lastly, layer a rich facial oil such as the Facial Beauty Elixir or the Facial Healing Elixir to lock in the benefits. These are ideal for dry skin as the best ingredients are rosehip oil and tamanu oil for intense moisture retention. Incorporating an eye oil such as the Advanced Eye Therapy will help with pesky fine lines in the delicate eye area.

EVERY SO OFTEN

Exfoliate once or twice a week to eliminate any dull, dehydrated surface skin cells, but be sure not to over-exfoliate with harsh granular products as that will end up drying our skin even more.

Try using a chemical or acidic formula like our Facial Brightening Powder which is pure L-Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin-C). Vitamin-C helps to encourage cell renewal and in turn, enhance skin's barrier function and reduce damage of free radicals. It’s a perfect treatment for dry skin types.

To help minimise any enlarged pores in your T-Zone, try using the Facial Pore-Refining Powder 2-3 times a week, paying predominant attention to the forehead, nose and chin. This powerful skin-renewing ingredient visibly minimises and tightens enlarged pores, while strengthening your skin’s natural surface to improve skin texture and smoothness. It even prevents loss of moisture/water and protects from pollutants and irritants, making it particularly gentle enough for even dry, mature and sensitive skin types.

EVERY TIME,
AS NEEDED

Keep a facial mist in your handbag for instant hydration and to top-up moisture levels on the go!

TIPS

Incorporate oil-rich skin care into your routine to replenish what your skin’s not naturally producing. Use SPF daily to protect your skin from the drying effect of the sun.

Drink at least 2 litres of clean water to boost hydration levels. Also incorporate water dense fruits and vegetables like celery, cucumber and tomatoes.

Regularly exfoliate to clear away those dry, flaky skin cells. But not too often as it is important for your skin to produce its own oil.

Steer clear of harsh cleansers, soaps, sulphates or artificial perfumes that will further irritate your dry skin.
