COMBINATION SKIN TYPE

WHAT‘S THAT?

Dry in some areas? Oily in other areas? You most likely have COMBINATION skin.

Typically, combination skin types have a mix of oily and dry areas on different parts of your face, with the t-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) being slightly to very oily.

CAUSES

If your skin type is combination, your skin loves to produce oil in the T-Zone but can be dry throughout the rest of the face. Your skin’s disposition is usually genetic, but it can also be a sign of imbalanced skin. It can be triggered by hormones, stress, diet and humidity. Using products that contain harsh or skin-aggravating ingredients will inevitably dry out some areas of your face while stimulating oil production in other parts (especially around the nose) that were already oily.

If you’re using the wrong products, you might actually be causing your combination skin. If you use the right products, your skin can rebalance, with the dry areas softening and the oily areas less inflamed (plus minimised pores).

TIPS

care

You’re dry in some places but oily in others. The trick is to use targeted treatments for different parts of your face. When it comes to combination skin - cleansing, hydrating, and treating your skin to detoxifying ingredients like clay on a regular basis will balance and clarify skin over time.

For oily areas and especially the T-zone, use the Deep Clean Facial Mask to draw out impurities and clear pores.

For the rest of the face and especially dry areas, use an organic facial oil that will nourish and hydrate your skin from within. It will also help to balance the oil production in your T-zone. Use a high quality facial oil like the Facial Beauty Elixir to replenish dry spots and regulate excess oil production at the same time.

Hydrate, double cleanse and exfoliate regularly, and don’t be afraid to use facial oils.

Applying an oil will act as the skin’s lipid barrier which will seal all that moisture in, and ensure your skin stays protected against pollutants / dirt in the air that eventually will clog your pores.

1

Cleanse

Assess your skin in the AM, and see whether your skin leans oily or slightly more dry. If it has a thick shine, then cleanse with the Facial Powder Cleanser. Cleansing in the morning gives a fresh, clean base to apply your skincare, make up and SPF.

2

Toner

Toning is a crucial step to rebalance the pH of your skin and to allow the following products to penetrate the skin more deeply after. Use a spritzing toner with good quality antioxidants like our Facial Antioxidant Mist. Antioxidants are basically a bodyguard for your face which neutralise free radicals and stop them from running riot causing blemishes and pigmentation.

3

Serum

Next, apply serums that will hydrate and strengthen your skin. Although your skin my be oily, it still needs a big boost of hydration especially after a long night's sleep. Firstly mist your face with the Facial Collagen Serum, then use the Facial Hydration Serum. This lightweight serum is pure Hyaluronic Acid which will instantly plump and firm your skin, while creating a natural protective barrier.

4

Facial Oil or Day Cream

End with a lightweight facial oil like the Facial Beauty Elixir or the Facial Balancing Elixir. If your skin is feeling extra oily, then feel free to just use a day cream with SPF under your makeup. Assess your skin daily to see what it needs.

MORNING ROUTINE

EVENING ROUTINE

Cleanse

Cleanse, and then cleanse again. It is important to ‘double cleanse’. Double cleanse with the Facial Cleansing Oil to ensure that all your make-up and the day’s dirt / build up is removed from the skin, and then follow with the Facial Powder Cleanser. Pay particular attention to cleaning your T-Zone and any areas where you have breakouts. But again, nothing too harsh or astringent as it will only cause your skin to produce more oil.

1

Tone

Like in the morning, tone your skin with a very hydrating organic Facial Antioxidant Mist or Facial Calming Mist to help your following products absorb better into the skin. Both mists will neutralise and tone the skin before your serums and oils.

2

Serum

Next, apply serums which contain the most active, skin-benefiting ingredients. Along with the Facial Hydration Serum, the Facial Collagen Serum will help with the negative effects of having dry skin. Collagen is an important ingredient as it is the natural structural protein that are the ‘building blocks‘ of your skin, so promotes skin strength, firmness, and plumpness.

3

Facial Oil

We know what you are thinking, facial oils can seem scary to apply. But, face oil can do tremendous things for combination skins! The oils in our Elixirs are completely different to the problematic ones produced by our skin. By applying a high quality, singular face oil - like the Facial Beauty Elixir - your skin will not overproduce excess oil/ sebum (which causes breakouts and greasiness). Instead, our Elixirs will work to hydrate the skin and regulate the natural oil your skin is producing. Therefore, using either our Facial Beauty Elixir or Facial Balancing Elixir can help to clear up blemishes, congestion and otherwise very angry skin.

EVERY SO OFTEN

Apply the Deep Clean Facial Mask to your T-zone every 1-2 times a week and wherever else you get oily. Your silver bullet is the multi-mask technique. Gone are the days where one mask or product goes everywhere! Consistent exfoliation helps to draw out impurities, clears out pores and extract blackheads and blemishes.

In order to balance your skin's own breakout-causing sebum production, the Facial Pore-Refining Powder is your secret weapon. This powerful skin-renewing ingredient visibly minimises and tightens enlarged pores, while strengthening your skin’s natural surface to improve skin texture and smoothness. Niacinamide reduces skin-shine, excess oils and calms congestion and blemishes. It even prevents loss of moisture/water and protects from pollutants and irritants, leaving your skin perfectly balanced. Start using the Niacinamide powder every second night, and progress slowly to every evening.

Try also using a chemical or acidic formula like our Facial Brightening Powder which is pure L-Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin-C). Vitamin-C helps to encourage cell renewal and in turn, enhance skin‘s barrier function and reduce damage of free radicals. If you’re dealing with acne scars, Vitamin-C can brighten scars and help repair skin damage.

EVERY TIME,
AS NEEDED

Spot treatment with the Deep Clean Facial Mask.

Also whenever you have blemishes or breakouts as it will dry it out and speed up the healing process. Avoid the pick!

TIPS

Multi-masking was made for combination skins. We’d recommend a clay mask on the T-Zone, a hydrating serum/oil on the dry areas.

It is essential to double cleanse and remove all makeup before bed, as it can block your pores overnight which will only increase issues. Focus on cleansing your T-zone most thoroughly with a gentle cleansing oil followed by a foaming cleanser.

Treat your skin to a detoxifying clay mask at least twice a week. This mineral-rich mask deeply cleanses, balances, purifies and clarifies your face. It minimising shine and diminishing the look of pores, without drying or stripping skin of essential moisture.

Keep your hands off - do not pick blackheads or breakouts. This can lead to acne scars or spread bacteria across the face.
