After years of vowing to cut back on chocolate and hit the gym daily, we've come to accept that most new year resolutions are more of a work in progress rather than an instant transformation. But even though a new year doesn't guarantee waking up a brand-new person overnight, it's still the perfect opportunity to reset your 2020 ambitions towards brighter, healthier skin. So we are breaking down 10 of our skincare resolutions to ensure a glowing prospect for 2020.
1. Invest In Key Ingredients
"Pure, potent and powerful ingredients" is our mantra - We do not believe in combining excessive components as it will only dilute the most powerful ingredient and overwhelm the skin. Make 2020 the year you experiment with the most revered skincare ingredients. Invest in a good quality hyaluronic acid serum, a vegan collagen serum, and a vitamin-C exfoliant.
2. SPF all year round
Regardless of it's cold outside, if the sky is overcast, or if you're planning on wearing a hat, daily SPF is an absolute must. Not only does it protect your skin, but it also helps slow down signs of ageing. Opt for a moisturiser with SPF included and keep it handy next to the rest of your daytime skincare routine so you don't forget to put it on.
3. Mask a week
Make a commitment to yourself to put on a face mask at least once a week. Not only will your skin thank you, but taking a 15-minute break to sit with your mask on while you catch up on your reading or Netflix show is a chance to zen out and take some time for you.
4. Thou shalt not pick!
We know it’s tempting, but we also know how damaging it can be to pick at your blemishes - end result can be scarring and increased breakouts. Resist the urge this year and treat your acne right by cleansing the area daily and applying our Deep Clean Facial Mask to affected areas at least twice a week. You’ll be surprised how much quicker your skin will clear up!
5. Exfoliate regularly
Winter can often mean dry and dull skin, so we’re stepping up our exfoliating game this year. For oily and combination skin types, a good quality clay mask is your best friend. Everyone’s skin needs are different, but we recommend exfoliating 2-3 times a week.
6. Give your skin a break from makeup
Make up, chemicals and even more products can leave our skin frustrated. On average, a woman applies more than 200 harmful chemicals to her skin daily - scary stuff! This year, we’re vowing to go at least three days a week without makeup, and wearing only nontoxic makeup!
7. Don’t neglect the neck
Your face stops at your boobs! We tend to focus on our skin face - but it’s also important to pay attention to our neck, décolletage and hands, as these can show the first signs of ageing. We love to give our body extra TLC by exfoliating regularly and using our Body Nourishing Remedy at least three times a week.
8. Drink more water
It's no secret that drinking water is great for your overall health, but it's especially great for your skin. Your skin often reacts to your body's dehydration, causing it to flake or to break out in response. Make it a personal mission to carry around a reusable water bottle wherever you go in 2020 so you can stay hydrated no matter where you are.
9. Eliminate Stressors
There is a direct correlation between stress and acne - dammit! If you feel like your stress levels are through the roof, discover new ways to unwind and relax. Take time for yourself daily, whether that means a nightly bath, reading your favourite book or going for a nightly walk.
10. Prioritise Sleep
"Beauty sleep" is a real thing, and you should be getting as much of it as you can. It's the body’s chance to rebuild, and our skin cells to regenerate - so try to sleep at least 6/7 hours per night, and preferably go to bed early.
